It’s time to ditch Bali for Borocay – 10 reasons why we vote for Borocay Island over Bali

1. The beach 🏝️ – Borocay is the true definition of beach lovers paradise. It has everything you could ask for in a perfect beach – stunning powdery white sand, soft shimmering crystal clear water, plentiful coconut trees to set the scene.

Water so good you’ll stay in for hours

2. Water sports and activities – there are almost unlimited water sport based activities and they have everyone covered. From adrenaline junkies on banana boats and jet skis to sunset and party cruises, parasailing and suping

Golden hour hits different

3. Food lovers paradise – there are foodies and then there are FOODIES. I’m telling you if you LOVE good food.. you come to Borocay! There are levels to this.. firstly Filipino food omg it’s a level on its own. It’s sweet, it’s a flavour-bomb and it’s so creative. There are dishes here that don’t exist anywhere else, maybe the original fusion before fusion was such a thing? We did not have a single bad meal from juicy burgers, perfect homemade fries, seafood buffets to authentic Japanese.

Coco Mama does not dissapoint

4. Pristine, clean and it doesn’t stink – this is such an underrated rarity in south east Asia. No rubbish! The beaches are not polluted, you can’t smoke or drink wherever you please and it has made all the difference to the environment and cleanliness. So damn refreshing.

White beach.. appropriately named

5. No Bogans. I’ve got no issue with bogans unless I’m on holidays.. fair right? Plus I want to feel like I’ve actually left Australia.

6. Value for money – this is not a place you come to drain your wallet. Whilst accomodation is fairly standard pricing leaning towards more expensive for Asia, your holiday isn’t going to break the bank. At the time of writing 100 pesos is $2.40 AUD. Happy hour cocktails start from around 120 pesos!!

7. Wildlife free – there are no caged monkeys, drugged tigers or reptiles being handed around on the beach. The street dogs and cats are well cared for and there is no wildlife exploitation to speak of. This is also extremely underrated and adds to the holiday vibe. No cruelty BIG tick from us.

8. Bacon – the Filipinos LOVE their pork. Whilst I did say no wildlife I did not say no piggies were harmed in this holiday. We are not big pork eaters but it’s refreshing to see real bacon and not turkey bacon (what the..) in the breakfast buffets. The whole roasted pigs are a common delicacy and they do it so well. Sorry Peppa..

9. No Bali Belly – yes you real correct! Whilst the tap water isn’t fit for drinking – naturally.. there are no instant gastro issues here. Unlike Bali or countries like Vietnam where this is just a rite of passage, you aren’t going to get sick here. BIG tick, no wasted time.

10. The weather – last and certainly not least.. the weather. Coming from a South East QLD summer, we did question why another tropical destination. Wildly unexpected and a literal breath of fresh air, 27 degrees with refreshing (gusty at times) breezes. Strolling all day is actually a pleasure here, the sun won’t roast you like a rotisserie chook and the water temperature is also just refreshingly perfect.
