Road trip 🤙 Toowoomba to Gold Coast

We’re setting off to explore some places we haven’t seen before. Kicking this blog off with a tour starting from home in the Sunshine Coast, overnighting in Toowoomba and then Stanthorpe, two nights in Yamba and finishing with two nights in the beautiful Gold Coast to spend time with friends.

Our journey begins in the Sunshine Coast and we head out back through Peachester. This turns out to be a pleasantly surprising pocket of paradise. Think lush green valleys and thriving trees. Could be the happiest cows we’ve ever seen! Note @malenydairies is this why your milk tastes so amazing 🤔

Kilcoy is a surprisingly cute country town. Well maintained and complete with a couple of quintessential Aussie watering holes (aka pub hotels) if we had more time we would have absolutely spent time checking it out.

We also pass through Esk which we didn’t find as appealing, didn’t bother with a stop here as we are keen to kick on to Toowoomba!

Made it to Toowoomba. Wow!! So not what we expected. They call this the Garden City and it does not disappoint. The streets are lined with centuries old Camphor Laurel, the houses are meticulously maintained and there is some old world history here that was totally unexpected.

Our accomodation (link below) is absolutely stunning. A two bedroom, two bathroom Hamptons style stunner easy walking distance to the noteworthy Queens Park, Botanical Gardens. This place is big vibes for a very reasonable $270 per night.

Excuse Max – note epic Bunya in background

Laurel Bank Park

Before we head off the next day we decide to check out Laurel Bank Park.

The children’s playground is perfect for all ages with lots of great equipment, it’s exceptionally well maintained, as are the surrounding grounds. Max has a blast here checking out baby Dino sculptures and topiary of native Aussie wildlife.

Accidentally timing our trip for Jacaranda season has been such a magical surprise. Toowoomba has absolutely embraced this tree and they can be found en-mass on most streets, front yards and parks.

Even Thomas is made out of bushes!

After a big play and exploring the gardens it’s time for a coffee stop before heading to Stanthorpe.

We decided to have coffee and brekkie at The Dutch Cafe. The coffee was perfect and the food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommended.
